You drill a series of holes (5/8 inch diameter) in the stone, insert a pair of feathers into each hole, then place the wedge between them. Hitting the wedges in sequence with a hammer creates massive inward pressure that cracks the stone cleanly along the line of holes. It's much quieter and gives you more control than a jackhammer.
